Northridge Mall, Bloemfontein | Moolman Group

Moolman Group has partnered with the current owners of the existing Northridge Mall in Bloemfontein, PHG Group.

Together, the developers are spending in excess of R300 million on the complete renovation and expansion of the mall. As an additional anchor tenant, together with a revamped Pick n Pay and newly opened Dischem, Woolworths Food and Textile of approximately 4 500 m² (which will also include a Woolworths Cafe) will be built. Furthermore an array of new national retail shops and restaurants as well as the inclusion of some of the most popular local retailers, will ensure that residents are treated to a first-class shopping and dining experience. These include, amongst others Pick n Pay Clothing, Cape Union Mart, Tread and Miller, Keedo, Old Khaki, Truworths, Ackermans, Trappers Trading, Sportsmans Warehouse, Clicks, PNA, Mugg n Bean, Mellins iStyle and many more. The renovation also includes the construction of a further 6 000 m² of GLA and 600 new parking bays.

Construction of the new flagship, free-standing Virgin Active health club of ±3 700 m² is already underway, with completion set for April 2018.

Northridge Mall is strategically located along the R700 (Kenneth Kaunda Rd), which connects the northern suburbs and the city to the N1 freeway. It is located on the northern fringe of Bloemfontein, in an area with higher life plane suburbs like Helicon Heights, Heuwelsig, Pentagon Park, Rayton and Dan Pienaar. The land north of Northridge Mall is experiencing high growth in residential activity of middle to higher income groups, with a number of new estates, as well as proposed estates for development – Wild Olive and Lilyvale being only two examples of many.

This growth in turn will bring a solution to the undersupply of retail offerings within Bloemfontein’s northern suburbs, which will become even more apparent as growth in the node continues.

Once the initial redevelopment and expansion referred to as Phase 1 is successfully completed, the planning of a proposed Phase 2 will commence. This includes a further expansion of up to 55 000 m², establishing a new small Regional Mall in Bloemfontein. The redevelopment and extension of Northridge Mall, as well as the future expansion opportunities the mall holds, carries the potential to more than sufficiently address the aforementioned retail undersupply and meet the needs of the growing population.
